Timber framing is a centuries-old craft that has evolved into an advanced technology to produce visually appealing structural building framing using heavy-timber posts, beams and other supporting elements. It all started with a 1950 dodge powerwagon, a chainsaw, and stubborn determination— Founder Russ Walker would sustainably source spruce trees from around the family home 12 miles outside Homer, Alaska, drag them through the woods back to his shop, mill, and “join” them piece by piece into beautiful wooden homes all over south central Alaska and beyond. Today, owner Sammy Walker continues that legacy crafting homes in the Smokey Bay Beamery shop, sourcing douglas fir, yellow cedar, and local spruce from trusted sawmills that understand and share the same passion for quality and wood.
